EiSMART – NICU films

A series of illustrated support films for parents of preterm and NICU babies, covering everyday care with warmth, clarity and a gentle visual touch.

Some projects matter in a way that goes beyond the brief. This series for EiSMART is one of them. The films cover practical topics -- moving and carrying your baby, nappy changing, play -- but with a specific focus on preterm and NICU babies, whose needs are different and whose parents are navigating an already difficult time.

The approach combined real footage with illustration and animation. Charley Scott's shooting gives the films warmth and authenticity, and Dr Betty Hutchon's presentation brings genuine expertise to every frame. Our own Sze Hang Lo created the illustrations and small animations woven through each film, which help make the instructions clear without ever feeling clinical.

Getting that balance right -- informative but not cold, simple but not patronising -- was the whole challenge. We're proud of how this one came together.
