Essex Youth Offending Services – Lived Experiences

A series of four social impact animations for Essex Youth Offending Services, built from real interviews with young people, social workers, teachers and police officers about county lines and criminal gangs.

Some briefs ask more of you than others. Essex Youth Offending Services came to Hocus Pocus Studio with a subject that demanded careful handling: the experiences of young people caught up in criminal gangs and county lines. Over 50 people were interviewed to build the foundation for the films, including young people, social workers, teachers and police officers.

The result is a series of four animations that take a non-judgmental, unflinching look at a rapidly escalating situation. The art direction and sound design reflect the often bleak and frustrating world these young people inhabit, calculated to engage rather than glorify. It is serious, necessary work, and the studio is proud to have made it.

The teaser reel above draws from all four films. You can watch each one in full below.

The films: 01 Bereavement 02 Motivation 03 Exploitation 04 Hope
